Sears Tower

Sears Tower

Located at 233 S. Wacker Drive.

 

Hours

Opens at 10 am daily

May-September closes at 10 pm

October –April closes at 8 pm

Admission charged. 

  

The Sears Tower opened in 1973.  The skydeck provides incredible views of Chicago and the shores of Lake Michigan and you can even see 4 states on clear days.  It is the highest observatory in Chicago at 1,353 feet.

The Art Institute of Chicago

Located at 111 S. Michigan Ave.

 

Hours:

Mon – Wed, 10:30 am – 4:30pm

Thursday 10:30 am – 8:00 pm

Friday 10:30 am – 4:30 pm

Sat and Sun, 10:00 am –5:00 pm

Admission is charged but Tuesdays are free. 

 

The Art Institute houses one of the most notable Impressionist-Post-Impressionist Collections outside of France.

 

Here’s a small list of pieces that can be seen at the Art Institute:

The Field Museum of Natural History

Sue - Field Museum

Located at 1400 S. Lake Shore Dr.

 

Hours:

9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily with the last admission at 4:00 pm. 

Admission is charged. 

 

The Field Museum is one of the world’s greatest natural history museums.  The must see here is Sue, the most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton ever found.

The Adler Planetarium

Located at 1300 S. Lake Shore Dr.

 

Hours:

Mon – Fri 9:30am – 4:30 pm

Sat – Sun 9:00 am – 4:30 pm

Admission is charged.

 

Has a collection of astronomical instruments and rare books and also has 2 full-size planetarium theaters.  On the first Friday of every month the planetarium is open from 9:30 am – 10:00 pm for Far Out Fridays where you can view the night sky through one of their telescopes.

Shedd Aquarium

Located at 1200 S. Lake Shore Dr.

 

Hours:

Memorial Day – Labor Day 9:00 am – 6:00 pm

Labor Day – Memorial Day 9:00 am – 5:00 pm weekdays and 

9:00 am – 6:00 pm on weekends. 

 

The last ticket is sold 45 minutes prior to closing.

Admission is charged.

Navy Pier

Navy Pier

Located at 600 E. Grand Ave.

 

Hours:

Vary depending on the season

 

Has many shops and restaurants, including the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.  There is a Ferris Wheel and the Chicago Children’s Museum is also located here.  On Wednesday and Saturday evenings from Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day weekend there are fireworks.

The Magnificent Mile, which is the stretch of Michigan Ave north of the Chicago River, is Chicago’s most fashionable street.

Chicago Cubs Game At Wrigley Field

Wrigley Field

Wrigley Field was built in 1914 and is the 2nd oldest National League ballpark.  

 

The first National League game there was in April 1916.  With its ivy covered brick outfield wall, Wrigley Field provides the perfect setting for America’s past-time.  Notice the 1937 scoreboard on which the numbers are moved by human hands.
