Here are a few suggestions on what to see

while visiting the 'Big Easy’

Explore the French Quarter

French Quarter

(we’ve highlighted our favorites below)

However, if you want to take a guided tour of the French Quarter (for more about the history and architecture), please click here for more information

Note: When checking in to your hotel, ask your front desk clerk which areas of the French Quarter to avoid especially after dark.

Have a café au lait and beignets at Café du Monde

Located at 800 Decatur Street (on the edge of Jackson Square)

Open 24 hours a day – 7 days a week (closed on Christmas Day)

Note: Credit Cards are not accepted so make sure you have some cash

Jackson Square

St. Louis Cathedral

Located in front of St. Louis Cathedral

Open daily 8:00 am until at least 6:00 pm

Artists hang their artwork on the fence

Musicians perform in the square

And you can even have your palm read

Several shops and restaurants are located around Jackson Square

Carriages are located in front of Jackson Square for those who want to take a carriage tour

Bourbon Street after dark

There is nothing else like this experience (and in case you don’t know, it’s not for children!)

You can get a daiquiri to go – they really have drinks to go on Bourbon Street – and just take it all in

Music filters out of each doorway as you walk down Bourbon Street – everything from jazz to zydeco

You really can’t leave New Orleans without seeing Bourbon Street at night

Note: Bourbon Street is not really the place to be early in the morning.  If you have ever been on Bourbon Street early in the morning, when they are hosing it down, you’ll never forget (though you’ll want to) that smell.
